Buck crashed into long Island bank

That was quite a scene! On Sunday, January 18, 2026, a large male buck crashed through the window of a Webster Bank in Ridge, Long Island.

The deer triggered a burglary alarm, leading Suffolk County police to arrive at what they thought was a standard break-in. Instead, they found a terrified deer "parkouring" over desks, smashing into teller barriers, and leaving a trail of chaos (and some blood from the broken glass) throughout the lobby.

Key Details of the Incident:

 * The Cause: While we can't ask the deer, glass repair experts suggested the buck likely saw its own reflection in the window and, thinking it was a rival male, decided to charge.

 * The Rescue: Five officers from the Seventh Precinct responded. Bodycam footage shows them carefully cornering the animal in a cubicle and eventually using a lasso to guide it back out through the same window it broke.

 * The Damage: The bank sustained significant interior damage, including overturned furniture and scattered files. The window repair alone was estimated at around $1,500.

 * The Outcome: Fortunately, the deer was successfully released back into the wild. Suffolk County Police Commissioner Kevin Catalina joked that the deer "was not charged in this case" and lives to "break into another bank another day."

It's a bizarre reminder of how much wildlife interacts with the suburban landscape on Long Island—and a very busy day for those bank cleaners!

Would you like me to find the video of the incident for you, or perhaps help you find a local bank that isn't currently being renovated by wildlife?
