Chaos breaks out over popular watch at local mall

The chaos at **Roosevelt Field Mall** stems from the global release of the highly anticipated **Audemars Piguet (AP) x Swatch** collaboration.
History repeated itself following the madness of the MoonSwatch release in 2022. This time around, the hype centered on a colorful 8-watch collection of Lépine-style pocket watches paying homage to AP's legendary Royal Oak design.
Because standard luxury Audemars Piguet watches retail well into the five and six figures, the opportunity to grab an "AP-branded" piece for roughly $400 caused a massive frenzy.
Here is what went down during the release:
 * **Massive Crowds & Stampedes:** Over 3,000 eager buyers and resellers flooded the Garden City mall, leading to massive, unmanageable lines. As doors opened, the situation quickly deteriorated into pushing, shoving, and a full-blown stampede inside the mall.
 * **Fights and Police Intervention:** Tensions boiled over among "cranky campers" who had been waiting in line for hours. Fights broke out, prompting a heavy police response to clear out the crowds and restore order.
 * **Global Phenomenon:** Roosevelt Field wasn't alone. Similar scenes of utter mayhem—featuring police blockades, fistfights, and pepper spray—took place at retail hubs globally, including the King of Prussia Mall in Pennsylvania and shopping centers in Dubai, forcing Swatch to abruptly cancel or close several launch locations for safety reasons.
Ironically, Swatch has explicitly stated that these watches are **not limited editions**. Just like the previous Omega collaborations, production is expected to continue, meaning there is plenty of inventory eventually making its way to shelves without the need to fight a crowd for it.
