Plane crash at queens airport

Reports confirm a tragic accident late last night, Sunday, March 22, 2026, at LaGuardia Airport in Queens, resulting in the deaths of two pilots.

The Incident

An Air Canada Express flight (operated by Jazz Aviation) arriving from Montreal collided with a Port Authority fire truck on the runway at approximately 11:45 p.m.

 * Casualties: Both the pilot and co-pilot of the aircraft were killed.

 * Injuries: At least 41 others were injured, including passengers and two Port Authority officers who were in the fire truck. Most injuries were non-life-threatening, though a few individuals remain in serious condition.

 * Cause: Early reports and air traffic control recordings indicate the fire truck was responding to a separate emergency (a reported odor on a United Airlines flight). There appears to have been a communication breakdown where the truck was cleared to cross the runway, but a controller realized the incoming plane was landing and frantically yelled "Stop!" just before the impact.

Current Status

 * Airport Closure: LaGuardia was closed following the crash but was expected to begin reopening around 2:00 p.m. today, March 23.

 * Investigation: The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Canadian Transportation Safety Board are currently on-site investigating the wreckage.

 * Damage: Photos from the scene show catastrophic damage to the nose and cockpit area of the Bombardier CRJ-900 aircraft.

The identities of the two pilots have not yet been officially released, though officials described them as "two young men at the start of their career."
