The new citywide speed limit for e-bikes, e-scooters, and pedal-assist commercial bicycles in New York City is 15 miles per hour (mph).
This rule went into effect on October 24, 2025.
It's important to note that this city rule overrides the higher maximum assisted speeds allowed under New York State law for different classes of e-bikes (which are typically 20 mph or 25 mph). The 15 mph limit applies to all e-bikes on city streets.
